Hi, I’m Annabel Bassett and I’m an aspiring sports journalist. I am currently studying my A-levels, whilst also reporting on Brighton Women’s WSL home matches for Sussex World online. I was given this opportunity by Worthing Herald newspaper and Sussex World online sports editor Steve Bone, after a successful week’s work experience.

I absolutely love sitting in the press box, writing my reports and attending the post match press conferences. So far, I have had the pleasure of partaking in press conferences with Melissa Phillips, Jonas Eidevall, Emma Hayes and have even managed to acquire a selfie from the latter, along with Lotte Wubben-Moy, Beth Mead and Lauren James!

I hope to continue reporting on Brighton Women in the WSL when I go to university in September this year in order to keep building my portfolio. I am also currently learning to drive, so when the 24/25 season begins I would love to travel to away games to report on them too!

My dream is to write match reports and articles for the likes of BBC Sport and The Guardian, attending Premier League matches, Champions League finals and even World Cup tournaments. Punditry and commentary also intrigue me- as my dad knows full well! I’m usually commentating on matches, much to his disgruntlement as he uses football as his time to relax…
As I am going to study Sports Journalism at university, it will give me the perfect opportunity to explore these avenues and see if they are something I would like to pursue. I’m super excited to go to university and to continue improving my journalistic skill set!
